Articaine hydrochloride mainly achieves local anesthesia by blocking sodium ion channels on the nerve cell membrane, inhibiting the generation and conduction of action potentials. Its effect is rapid (usually takes 1-3 minutes to take effect), and the duration of anesthesia is moderate (about 1-3 hours), especially suitable for dental surgeries that require precise anesthesia (such as tooth extraction and root canal treatment). Due to its fast metabolism (hydrolyzed by plasma esterase), it has fewer systemic side effects and is safer than traditional anesthetics such as lidocaine. In addition, the drug has minimal impact on the cardiovascular system and is suitable for cautious use by patients with hypertension or heart disease. It is one of the preferred short acting and potent anesthetics in dentistry.
