Penciclovir is a guanine analogue antiviral drug used to treat a variety of herpes virus infections. It has the characteristics of low toxicity and high virus sensitivity. Penciclovir has low oral absorption and is often used for topical administration. Famciclovir is a prodrug of penciclovir and is well absorbed orally.

Application&Function

Penciclovir is a purine acyclic nucleoside analogue with potent antiviral activity. The compound has been used in Human.Herpesvirus 6 studies and its activity assessed through flow cytometry. Herpes simplex virus-1 studies indicate that Penciclovir induces apoptosis without causing much genotoxicity.
