Metoclopramide hydrochloride is a dopamine D2receptor antagonist and 5-HT4 receptor agonist, classified pharmacologically as a prokinetic agent and anti-emetic. First synthesized in 1964 and approved by the FDA in 1979, it is chemically designated as 4-amino-5-chloro-N-(2-(diethylamino)ethyl)-2-methoxybenzamide hydrochloride. Dopamine D2 Antagonism:
