Thyme phenol (2-Isopropyl-5-methylphenol), also known as 5-methyl-2-isopropyl phenol, is a colorless crystal or colorless crystalline powder at room temperature, with the odor of thyme or musk. Purpose
1. Thymol is a food flavoring permitted by the "Hygienic Standard for the Use of Food Additives" in China. It is mainly used in the preparation of cough syrup, peppermint gum and other spices and essences. The usage amount in chewing gum is 100mg/kg. 44mg/kg in cold drinks; 2.5-1 mg/kg in soft drinks; 9.4mg/kg in candy; 5.0-6.5mg/kg in baked goods.
2. It is used as an analytical reagent and preservative.
3. It is used in the production of fragrances, medicines and indicators, etc., and is also often used in the treatment of skin mycosis and tinea.
4. GB 2760-1996 stipulates it as an edible flavoring that is temporarily permitted for use. It is mainly used for formulating cough. suppressants, chewing gum, peppermint, citrus, mushroom and spice flavorings, etc.
