Nitrofurazone (INN, trade name Furacin) is an antimicrobial organic compound belonging to the nitrofuran class. Nitrofurazone is listed under California Prop 65, and has demonstrated clear evidence to be mutagenic and carcinogenic during animal studies.The substance is pale yellow and crystalline.It was once widely used as an antibiotic for livestock.

Local antibacterial treatment
Skin infection and wound management: commonly used for disinfection of superficial wounds, burns, ulcers, or surgical wounds, preventing or treating infections by inhibiting bacterial growth.
Dosage form: Mostly used as an external solution (0.02% concentration) or ointment, directly applied to the affected area.
Mucosal disinfection: Diluted for mild infections in mucosal areas such as the oral cavity and nasal cavity (strictly follow medical advice).
Veterinary field
Treat animal injuries, hoof infections, or mucosal inflammation, but its use has been restricted in some countries due to potential risks of drug residue and resistance.
Historical applications
Previously used for bladder irrigation or ear drops, these uses have decreased due to safety concerns and the emergence of better alternative medications.
2, Mechanism of action
Interference with bacterial metabolism: Nitrofuran compounds are reduced to active derivatives within bacteria, damaging DNA, inhibiting acetyl CoA, interfering with sugar metabolism and protein synthesis, thereby killing or inhibiting bacteria.
Broad spectrum antibacterial activity: Effective against Gram positive bacteria (such as Staphylococcus and Streptococcus) and some Gram negative bacteria, but limited against Pseudomonas or most fungi.
