The molecular formula of Monensin Sodium is: C36H61O11Na, Molecular weight: 692.8. This product is insoluble in water and easily soluble in organic solvents  ethanol, etc. Melting point: 267-269 ºC [Function] Antibiotics used for chicken coccidiosis and beef cattle growth promotion. Good anti coccidiosis activity. No effect on negative bacteria; But it has a certain inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus, Bacteroides, Clostridium, Streptococcus, and Fungi (Penicillium, Candida). Mode of action It mainly acts on the early stage of coccidiosis. Normal coccidian sporophytes and schizonts have high potassium ion concentrations and low sodium ion concentrations inside the cells (opposite outside the cells). The cells maintain ion osmotic pressure balance by storing energy (pumping sodium externally and potassium internally) to stabilize the bacterial environment. Monensin interferes with the normal exchange of sodium and potassium ions in coccidian cells, causing a large amount of sodium ions to enter the cells, resulting in a high concentration of sodium ions inside the cells, an increase in osmotic pressure, and more water entering the coccidian cells. In order to eliminate excess sodium inside the cell, coccidiosis must use energy to pump out excess sodium, ultimately resulting in limited energy being used up; Then the sodium potassium ion exchange is interrupted and stopped, causing the cells to swell, deform, rupture, and disintegrate. Monensin can affect energy metabolism in the rumen of acetic acid, reduce volatile fatty acids, decrease production, and improve protein utilization efficiency. Therefore, it can significantly improve the feed utilization efficiency and promote growth of ruminant animals
Application&Function

Veterinary Antibacterial Monensin Sodium Feed Additives Monensin Sodium6. Monensin is absorbed very little in the intestines of normal cattle and poultry, and the drugs and metabolites excreted through feces account for about 99% of the administered dose
7. Poultry monensin is mainly used to prevent poultry coccidiosis. After medication, its efficacy, weight gain, and feed return are superior to those of promethazine and chlorhexidine.
8. Monensin can improve the rumen digestion process and increase the fermentation of  in the rumen. Continuous use of beef cattle (200mg/head) and lamb (5.5mg/kg) can increase body weight by 13.7% and 9%, respectively.
9. Monensin is usually not recommended to be used in combination with other anti coccidial drugs, as it often increases toxicity after use
