Secnidazole works by inhibiting pathogen DNA synthesis. Its active nitro groups are reduced in anaerobic microorganisms such as Trichomonas vaginalis, amoebas, Giardia, and some anaerobic bacteria, producing free radicals that destroy the DNA double helix structure and lead to microbial death. Compared to similar drugs such as metronidazole and tinidazole, Secnidazole has a longer half-life, fewer administration times, and better patient compliance. Clinical studies have shown that it has a cure rate of over 90% for trichomonas vaginitis and intestinal amoebiasis, and has low gastrointestinal side effects, making it an efficient and safe anti infective drug.
