Sparofloxacin is a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic, chemically named 5-amino-1-cyclopropyl-7- (cis-3,5-dimethyl-1-piperazinyl) -6,8-difluoro-1,4-dihydro-4-oxoquinoline-3-carboxylic acid. The compound is a white or off white crystalline powder, slightly soluble in water and easily soluble in organic solvents. The fluorine atoms in its molecular structure enhance its antibacterial activity, making it significantly inhibit Gram positive bacteria, Gram negative bacteria, and atypical pathogens such as mycoplasma and chlamydia. Sparfloxacin is mainly used in clinical practice for the treatment of respiratory, urogenital, and skin soft tissue infections, with long-lasting and high tissue permeability.
Application&Function

Sparfloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV, blocking DNA replication and repair, leading to bacterial death. It has a strong bactericidal effect on Staphylococcus aureus (including MRSA), Streptococcus pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, etc., especially on anaerobic bacteria and intracellular pathogens (such as Legionella and Mycoplasma). Due to its long half-life (approximately 16-30 hours), it can reduce the frequency of administration. However, it should be noted that this medication may cause side effects such as photosensitivity and QT interval prolongation. Therefore, it is necessary to avoid exposure to ultraviolet radiation and monitor the electrocardiogram during the medication period.
