Florfenicol is a broad-spectrum antibacterial antibiotic with anti-inflammatory, pro apoptotic, and immune response regulating functions. It tightly binds to the 50S subunit on bacterial ribosomes, hindering the peptidyl transferase's transpeptidation reaction, thereby inhibiting the extension of peptide chains. At the same time, it selectively acts on the receptors of the 70S nuclear protein body that makes up bacterial cells, altering and interfering with the function of peptidyl transferase, and double interfering with bacterial protein synthesis.

Florfenicol has a broad-spectrum antibacterial effect on various Gram positive, Gram negative bacteria and mycoplasma. Sensitive bacteria include Haemophilus bovis, Shigella dysenteriae, Salmonella, Escherichia coli, pneumococcal, influenza bacilli, streptococcus, Staphylococcus aureus, chlamydia, leptospira, rickettsia, etc. In addition, Florfenicol can be used in aquaculture to control intestinal sepsis in catfish and induce early embryo death in eggs.
