Manufacturing method
1. Cold soak the powder of Artemisia annua leaves in five times the amount of ether three times, and concentrate the extract to a small volume. Then, the acidic components were removed with 2% NaOH solution, and the ether was evaporated to obtain the neutral ether extract (with a yield of 2% - 3%). Mix this neutral ether extract with polyamide powder and percolate it with 47% ethanol. Concentrate the percolate to a small volume. Then it was extracted with ether. After concentrating the combined ether solution, it was chromatographed with a silica gel column. It was eluted with -10% . After concentrating the 10%- eluent and crystallizing, artemisinin was obtained (yield 0.2%).
Purpose
Used as an antimalarial drug.
Artemisinin (Qinghaosu) is a sesquiterpene lactone and an antimalarial active molecule isolated from the aboveground part of the Artemisia annua L. plant. Artemisinin inhibits the AKT signaling pathway by reducing pAKT in a dose-dependent manner. Artemisinin can reduce the proliferation, migration, invasion, tumorigenesis and metastasis of cancer cells, and at the same time, Artemisinin has neuroprotective effects.
Artemisinin is a penthiterpene lactone drug with a peroxy group extracted from the stems and leaves of the compound inflorescence plant Artemisia annua. It was discovered by Chinese pharmacologist Tu Youyou in 1971. It has a killing effect on Plasmodium asexual during the red phase and can effectively control the symptoms of malaria, especially against chloroquine-induced pernalopecia. Artemisinin is a highly effective, low-toxicity and fast-acting antimalarial drug extracted from Artemisia annua by Chinese medical workers.
