Flunixin meglumine is a novel, nonsteroidal animal specific antipyretic and analgesic drug, belonging to the nicotinic acid derivative and an inhibitor of cyclooxygenase. Developed by the American company Schering Plough in the 1990s (trade name Banamine), it is now widely used in many countries such as the United States, France, Switzerland, Germany, and the United Kingdom.

Application&Function

Flunixin meglumine is an inhibitor of cyclooxygenase, which inhibits the cyclooxygenase in the arachidonic acid reaction chain, reduces the production of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins and thromboxanes, maintains normal blood pressure, reduces damage to vascular endothelial cells, and maintains normal blood volume. It prevents various pathways such as increased bronchial exudate, neutrophil and albumin accumulation in exudate caused by E. coli endotoxins in respiratory diseases, effectively relieving fever, inflammation, and pain in the body. This medicine has a rapid effect and can generally alleviate pain within 15 minutes. The efficacy is higher than that of analgesics,   and it is four times more effective than  treating equine claudication and joint swelling.
