Lactoferrin plays an important role in the immune health of infants and young children. Lactoferrin is a kind of natural protein with various physiological activities. It is involved in various pathophysiological processes such as regulating immune function, anti-microbial, regulating iron absorption and promoting intestinal cell proliferation and differentiation. In recent years, lactoferrin has been widely used in infants, pregnant women and the elderly, which can reduce the risk of infection in premature infants, the incidence of respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases in infants and pregnant women, improve the anemia status of infants and pregnant women, increase the radical treatment rate of helicobacter pylori in children and adults, and improve the immune function of the elderly.
Application&Function

Lactoferrin distribution
Lactoferrin is widely distributed in mammalian milk and other tissues and secretions (including tears, bile, synovial fluid and other internal and external secretions and neutrophils). The concentration of lactoferrin in human milk is about 1.0-3.2mg/ml, which is 10 times that in cow milk (the content in cow milk is 0.02-0.35mg/ml). It accounts for 20% of the total protein of common breast milk. During lactation, the lactoferrin content changes with the different lactation time. For example, lactoferrin in human colostrum can reach 6-14mg/ml, and it can drop to 1mg/ml during normal lactation.
Lactoferrin and its protein degradation product-lactoferrin peptide have a wide range of biological activities, including broad-spectrum antibacterial effect, anti-inflammatory effect, inhibition of tumor cell growth and regulation of the body's immune response, etc. They are considered as a new antibacterial and anticancer drug and a promising food and cosmetic additive. For example, the US Food and Drug Administration has long allowed lactoferrin to be used as a food additive for sports and functional foods.
Biological function of lactoferrin
In recent decades, the function of lactoferrin, especially the biological function, has been extensively studied in laboratories around the world, and many new functions are constantly being discovered. Many in vivo and in vitro tests have proved that lactoferrin indeed has anti-microbial, immune regulation, anti-infection and tumor growth inhibition functions.
