Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor mainly used to treat digestive ulcers, reflux esophagitis, Zollinger Ellison syndrome, eradication of Helicobacter pylori (HP) and other diseases.
Omeprazole specifically acts on the site of the proton pump in gastric wall cells and converts it into the active form of sulfonamide. It then irreversibly binds to the thiol group of the proton pump through disulfide bonds, forming a complex of sulfonamide and proton pump (H ± K ± ATPase), thereby inhibiting the activity of the enzyme and preventing H+from being transported into the gastric cavity. This blocks the final step of gastric acid secretion and significantly reduces the amount of gastric acid in gastric juice. Therefore, omeprazole has a strong and long-lasting inhibitory effect on gastric acid secretion caused by various reasons.

The pharmacological effects of Omeprazole are mainly reflected in the following aspects:
1. Inhibition of gastric acid secretion: Omeprazole can specifically act on the site of the proton pump in gastric wall cells and convert into the active form of sulfonamide. Then, it irreversibly binds to the thiol group of the proton pump through disulfide bonds, forming a complex of sulfonamide and proton pump (H ± K ± ATPase), thereby inhibiting the activity of the enzyme and preventing H+from being transported into the gastric cavity. This blocks the final step of gastric acid secretion and greatly reduces the amount of gastric acid in gastric juice. Therefore, this product has a strong and long-lasting inhibitory effect on gastric acid secretion caused by various reasons.
2. Treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers, stress ulcers, etc.
3. Treatment of reflux esophagitis and gastrinoma.
4. Prevent severe diseases (such as cerebral hemorrhage, severe trauma, etc.) and upper gastrointestinal bleeding caused by gastric surgery.
5. Acute gastric mucosal injury caused by non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs during stress state.
6. After general anesthesia or major surgery, as well as in comatose patients, to prevent acid reflux and aspiration pneumonia.
7. When combined with amoxicillin and clarithromycin, or with metronidazole and clarithromycin, it can effectively kill Helicobacter pylori (Hp).

Treating gastrointestinal diseases related to gastric acid, such as gastric ulcers, duodenal ulcers, reflux esophagitis, stress ulcers, Zollinger syndrome, as well as symptoms such as heartburn and acid reflux caused by excessive gastric acid, can inhibit gastric acid secretion, promote ulcer healing, and protect the gastric mucosa.
9. Can be used as one of the four combination drugs against Helicobacter pylori infection.
