Secnidazole is a second-generation nitroimidazole antibacterial drug mainly used to treat anaerobic bacteria and protozoan infections. Its mechanism of action is to generate active metabolites through nitro reduction, disrupt the structure of pathogen DNA, and inhibit growth. Clinical indications include bacterial vaginosis, amoebic dysentery, trichomonas vaginitis, and Giardia. Compared with metronidazole, it has a longer half-life (about 17-29 hours) and can be taken orally in a single dose to improve compliance. The common adverse reactions are gastrointestinal discomfort, which is generally well tolerated. Due to its broad-spectrum and long-lasting characteristics, it has become one of the first-line treatment options for anaerobic bacterial infections.
Application&Function
Seconazole is clinically used to treat urethritis, vaginitis, male prostatitis caused by Trichomonas vaginalis, various acute and chronic hepatic and intestinal amoebiasis (such as intestinal amoebiasis, hepatic amoebiasis), as well as Giardia and anaerobic bacterial infections in various parts of the human body
However, when taking secnidazole, it should be avoided to use it together with disulfiram to prevent delirium or mental disorders; Meanwhile, due to its strong inhibitory effect on anticoagulation under Chinese laws and regulations, patients with a history of abnormal blood count should not take it.
