Quinine is an alkaloid extracted from the bark of cinchona, which has anti malaria properties. Quinine is a potassium channel inhibitor that can suppress the MT mSlo3 (KCa5.1) channel+100 mV current induced by voltage pulses, with an IC50 value of 169 μ M3
Application&Function
Pharmacological effects and applications
Antimalarial effect
Quinine can inhibit the reproduction or kill the red phase malaria parasites of benign malaria (Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium vivax) and malignant malaria, and can control the onset of symptoms. Among them, it has the best efficacy against Plasmodium vivax, followed by Plasmodium vivax, and the worst efficacy against Plasmodium falciparum. However, due to its limited effectiveness in controlling symptoms, weak effects, and numerous side effects, it is no longer commonly used as a routine antimalarial drug and can only be used for malignant malaria patients who are resistant to chloroquine.
antipyretic effect
Quinine has an inhibitory effect on the central nervous system, which can suppress the overexcited body temperature center and exert antipyretic effects. Its compound preparation can be used for antipyretic purposes.
