Arecoline is an effective drug to repel animal tapeworms, but it is difficult to meet clinical needs due to its low content and unstable nature. Arecoline hydrobromide is obtained by reaction of arecoline with ethanol solution of hydrobromide.
White crystalline powder, odorless, bitter, poisonous, light deterioration. Melting point 170-171 °C. Soluble in water and ethanol. Insect repellent, mostly for veterinary treatment.

The pharmacological category is parasitic drugs. Arecoline has a strong paralysing effect on the muscles of tapeworms, and can enhance the intestinal peristalsis of the host, thus producing the effect of removing tapeworms. It is mainly used to treat the common tapeworm disease in dogs and poultry. Usage and dosage,
Internal administration: Treatment of tapeworm disease, one dose, dog 1.5~2 mg, chicken 3 mg, duck, goose 1~2 mg. Tablets: 5 mg, 10 mg each.
Note: The amount of treatment can cause individual dogs to produce vomiting or diarrhea symptoms, and many can heal themselves. Horses are sensitive, cats are the most sensitive, so don't use them. Atropine can be used to cure poisoning.
