The pharmacological effects of Ampicillin Sodium
1. Pharmacological mechanism of action
Antibacterial spectrum:
The effect on Gram positive bacteria (such as Streptococcus, Staphylococcus, Clostridium, etc.) is similar to penicillin, but it also has inhibitory effects on some Gram negative bacteria (such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Proteus, Haemophilus influenzae, etc.).
Easy to be hydrolyzed and inactivated by β - lactase, ineffective against enzyme producing bacteria such as penicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus, most Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Mechanism of action:
As a β - lactam antibiotic, it interferes with peptidoglycan cross-linking by inhibiting the key enzyme of bacterial cell wall synthesis, penicillin binding protein (PBP), leading to damage to cell wall integrity and bacterial lysis.
It only has bactericidal effect on bacteria that are active in growth.
