Lutein, as a natural plant pigment with multiple biological activities, has been widely used in food, medicine, and cosmetics. However, due to the unsaturated structure of most lutein, its water solubility and stability are poor, making it easily degraded and inactivated. Its oral bioavailability is low, greatly affecting its efficacy. 1g of lutein is equivalent to the value of 1g of gold [6], and is given the reputation of "plant gold".
Lutein can inhibit the proliferation and differentiation of preadipocytes and have a lipid-lowering effect. Specifically, it inhibits the activity of the transcription factor receptor - γ (PPAR γ) responsible for activating adipocytes. The activation of PPAR γ can downregulate the expression of inflammatory factors such as TNF - α, LP, and interleukin-6 (IL-6), and induce the expression of adiponectin (a adipokine that makes the liver and muscles sensitive , thereby regulating sensitivity, intervening in adipocyte differentiation, and exerting lipid-lowering effects.
