Metoclopramide is a medication that promotes gastric motility, mainly used to treat symptoms such as indigestion, nausea, and vomiting.
Metoclopramide improves the above symptoms by blocking dopamine D2 receptors, reducing the bradykinesia of gastrointestinal smooth muscles, and increasing the tension of the lower esophageal sphincter. It also has a mild sedative effect and can enhance dopamine antagonism in the central nervous system, thereby exerting its antiemetic effect.
Application&Function
Metoclopramide improves gastrointestinal motility by blocking dopamine D2 receptors, reducing bradykinesia of smooth muscle in the gastrointestinal tract, and increasing lower esophageal sphincter tone. It also has a strong central antiemetic effect, which can inhibit dopamine receptors in the central emetic chemosensory zone (CTZ), reduce impulses transmitted to the autonomic nervous system, and exhibit a strong central antiemetic effect. In addition, Metoclopramide can inhibit the relaxation of gastric smooth muscle, increase the cholinergic response of gastrointestinal smooth muscle, accelerate gastric emptying, increase the temporal activity of the gastric antrum, and promote the relaxation of the upper small intestine, thereby promoting functional coordination between the gastric antrum, gastric body, and upper small intestine.
