Beimycin is neutral and appears as colorless needle shaped crystals with a melting point of 181-182 ºC. It is slightly soluble in water and easily soluble in organic solvents such , propanol, benzene, and ether. Beimycin has more than ten components, including A, A ', B, C, D1, D2, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, etc. Among these components, erythromycin A (molecular formula C61H88Cl2O32; molecular weight 1404.24) has the highest activity, especially effective against Clostridium, Streptococcus, and Bacteroides; Secondly, Beimycin B (molecular formula C59H84Cl2O32; molecular weight 1376.19) has the highest activity against Staphylococcus aureus; Other types have little effect and low content. All of the above types are derivatives of erythromycin A.
Beimycin A is a sugar based oligosaccharides (also known as oligosaccharides) consisting of a portion of dichlorolate mycotic acid (fragment A), D-olivose (fragments B and C), 2-deoxy-D-evalose (fragment D), 4-O-methyl-D-fucose (fragment E), 2,6-di-O-methyl-D-mannose (fragment F), L-lysine (fragment G), and methyl urekanate (fragment H), forming a seven sugar chain.
