Spinosad, also known as polymyxin, is a large cyclic lactone based, pollution-free, and highly efficient biological insecticide. It is extracted from the fermentation broth of soil actinomycete Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Polybactericides have rapid and efficient contact killing and gastric toxicity activities against target pests, while being safe and environmentally friendly to non target organisms. Therefore, they are widely used in integrated pest control. The mechanism of action of fungicides is believed to be through the action of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, which continuously activate the target insect acetylcholine nicotinic receptors, but their binding sites are different from nicotine and imidacloprid.

Spinosad is a macrolide antibiotic insecticide mainly used to control pests such as Lepidoptera larvae, thrips, and leafminer.
