Sodium phosphomycin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic, chemically known as (1R, 2S) -1,2-epoxypropyl phosphate disodium salt. It is a white or off white crystalline powder that is easily soluble in water and has good stability. Sodium phosphomycin exhibits significant antibacterial activity against various Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria, such as Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, by inhibiting early synthesis of bacterial cell walls. This drug is commonly used in clinical practice to treat urinary tract infections, respiratory tract infections, and soft tissue infections, and due to its unique mechanism of action, it has less cross resistance with other antibiotics.
Application&Function

The main mechanism of action of sodium phosphomycin is to irreversibly inhibit bacterial cell wall synthase (MurA), block the production of peptidoglycan, and lead to bacterial cell wall defects and death. Its antibacterial spectrum covers common pathogenic bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and multidrug-resistant strains. Sodium phosphomycin has good absorption after oral or injection, strong tissue permeability, and particularly high concentrations in urine and kidneys, making it particularly suitable for urinary system infections. In addition, it can also be used in combination with other antibiotics to enhance efficacy and reduce the development of drug resistance, making it an important choice for clinical anti infective treatment.
