Rapamycin (RAPA), whose chemical name is: (3S, 6R, 7E, 9R, 10R, 12R, 14S, 15E, 17E, 19E, 21S, 23S, 26R, 27R, 34aS)-9, 10, 12, 13, 14, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27 32, 33, 34, 34a- hexadechy-9, 27- dihydroxy-3 -[(1R)-2-[(1S, 3R, 4R) -4-hydroxy-3-methoxycyclohexyl] -1-methylethyl]-10, 21- dimethoxy-6, 8, 12, 14, 20, 26- hexamethyl-23 27-epoxy-3H-pyridine [2, 1-C][1, 4] oxazazazazatecycline-1, 5, 11, 28, 29 (4H, 6H, 31H) -pentanone is a white solid crystal with a melting point of 183-185℃. It is lipophilic and soluble in organic solvents such as methanol, ethanol, acetone, and chloroform. It is slightly soluble in water and almost insoluble in ether. Clinically, it is a new type of macrolide immunosuppressant. Rapamycin exerts an immunosuppressive effect by blocking signal transduction through different cytokine receptors and inhibiting the process of T lymphocytes and other cells from the G1 phase to the S phase.

Used as an immunosuppressant;  antirestenotic. Sirolimus (INN/USAN ), also known as rapamycin,  is an immunosuppressant drug used to prevent rejection in organ transplantation;  it is especially useful in kidney transplants.
