Methyl-5-benzoylbenzimidazole-2-aminoformate is a broad-spectrum antiparasitic drug. This product is a white to slightly yellow crystalline powder that is difficult to dissolve in water but easily soluble in organic solvents. It inhibits the aggregation of parasite microtubule proteins, interferes with energy metabolism, and leads to parasite death. Xylimidazole has good stability and needs to be stored in a dark sealed manner. It is widely used in the field of human and veterinary deworming and meets pharmacopoeial standards such as USP/EP. It is one of the important drugs for treating intestinal worm infections.
Application&Function

Xylimidazole is mainly used to treat intestinal nematode infections such as roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, and pinworms, and also has a certain effect on tapeworms. Its mechanism of action is to selectively bind to the parasite's β - tubulin, block glucose uptake and microtubule formation, resulting in the inability of the parasite to survive and reproduce. After oral administration, the drug is absorbed less in the gastrointestinal tract and mostly excreted in its original form with feces, making it relatively safe. Both adults and children over 2 years old can use it, and common dosage forms include tablets and suspensions. The adverse reactions are mild, with occasional abdominal pain and diarrhea. The World Health Organization (WHO) lists it as one of the essential anti parasitic drugs.
