Griseomycin is a natural antifungal antibiotic produced by Penicillium griseofulvum, with a molecular weight of 352.77. It is a white to light yellow crystalline powder, slightly soluble in water and easily soluble in organic solvents. Griseomycin is mainly used to treat superficial fungal infections caused by dermatophytes (such as Trichophyton, Microsporidia, etc.), such as tinea capitis, tinea corporis, tinea pedis, etc. It inhibits fungal growth by interfering with the polymerization of microtubule proteins, suppressing mitosis. The drug accumulates in the stratum corneum after oral absorption and needs to be taken for a long time to achieve therapeutic effects.
Application&Function

Griseomycin is a bacteriostatic antifungal drug that inhibits fungal mitosis and impedes hyphal growth by binding to fungal microtubule proteins. It is highly effective against dermatophytes such as Trichophyton, Microsporum, Epidermophyton, but ineffective against yeast and deep-seated fungi. Clinically, it is mainly used to treat stubborn tinea capitis, tinea pedis, and onychomycosis, and requires continuous medication for several weeks to months to ensure that the newly formed stratum corneum is free of fungal infections. Side effects include gastrointestinal discomfort, headache, photosensitivity, etc. Long term use requires monitoring of liver function. At present, due to the popularity of new antifungal drugs such as terbinafine, their application has been reduced, but they still have specific clinical value.
